Paris 2-Day Route
Planning guidance · confirm before travel
Use as a starting point: daily plans, visit order and accommodation areas, not live opening or availability.
Confirm before travel: prices, hours, booking rules and transport schedules. Linked evidence supports individual details, not the entire book.

📅 Start dateHighlights your travel day only. It does not refresh prices or make reservations; use the revision form to change the plan.

Two days, two anchors: Eiffel Tower on Day 1, Louvre on Day 2. Both sit on the Seine, about 4 km apart, so you stay in one hotel and move between two clusters — Left Bank / 7th arrondissement for Day 1, 1st arrondissement for Day 2. No cross-city sprinting.

Paris rewards slow walking. Day 1 is riverbank and market street; Day 2 is museum, garden, arcades. Pick a hotel in the 7th near Ecole Militaire or La Tour-Maubourg: you walk to the tower, and the metro to the Louvre is a straight ride on line 8 to Palais Royal–Musée du Louvre.

Three things to book or check before you go: (1) Eiffel Tower timed entry — summit lift slots sell out days ahead in peak season, book on the official tower site; (2) Louvre timed entry — the museum is closed Tuesdays, and Wednesday/Friday late nights run to 21:00, so pick your day around that; (3) if your dates land on French school holidays, a public holiday, or late-December, expect bigger crowds and higher hotel rates — check the French public holiday calendar for your exact dates.

Before you leave

  • Book Eiffel Tower timed slot on the official site — summit lift about EUR 29.40【estimate】, stairs about EUR 14.20【estimate】
  • Book Louvre timed entry — EEA rate EUR 22.00 (from the museum page); non-EEA rate to confirm on the same page
  • Check your passport's Schengen entry rules for your nationality — conditions vary, confirm on the official French visa portal
  • Set up a payment method that works in EUR — see the money card below

Packing

  • Comfortable walking shoes — you will do 8–12 km a day on stone
  • Small daypack, no large bags allowed in the Louvre cloakroom queue
  • Refillable water bottle — fountains are free and everywhere
  • Compact umbrella or light rain shell
  • Portable charger — maps and tickets drain your phone
  • Reusable tote for market shopping on Rue Cler

Before you set off

Check any booking, closure, last-entry or transport detail not listed here. Use the day’s Plan B if sold out.

    GETTING AROUND

    Routes & transport

    Getting to Paris

Arrival airport and station are not specified in this brief, so no transfer is priced. From CDG: RER B to Châtelet–Les Halles, about 35–45 min, roughly EUR 11.80【estimate】. From Orly: Orlyval + RER B, about 40 min, roughly EUR 14.50【estimate】. From Gare du Nord: RER B or metro, 15–20 min, single metro ticket about EUR 2.50【estimate】. Taxi flat rates from CDG are around EUR 56【estimate】 and from Orly around EUR 36【estimate】 — confirm the current flat rate at the official taxi rank, not with touts.

    Getting around

Buy a Navigo Easy card (about EUR 5【estimate】 deposit) and load single rides at about EUR 2.50【estimate】 each, or a day pass if you ride 4+ times. Metro line 8 links La Tour-Maubourg / Ecole Militaire to Palais Royal–Musée du Louvre in about 15 min. Walking between the two clusters takes 50–60 min along the river — flat and doable if the weather holds. Rideshare and taxis exist but traffic on the quays is slow; metro is faster for this route.

    Internet

eSIM data plan: roughly EUR 8–15【estimate】 for 5–10 GB, activate before you fly. Roaming add-on from your home carrier: roughly EUR 5–15【estimate】 per day depending on plan. Pocket WiFi rental: roughly EUR 5–8【estimate】 per day, pick up at the airport. eSIM is cheapest for two people sharing a hotspot.

    Overnight stay: Paris

    Daily time budget (estimate)

    09:30–18:00 · Travel 60 min · Buffer 30 min

Relaxed pace: one area only (Eiffel Tower/Left Bank). Must-do Eiffel Tower included. Budget: keep paid activities low; Eiffel Tower stairs ticket about EUR 14.20【estimate】, summit lift about EUR 29.40【estimate】. No arrival time given, so day starts at 09:30 after hotel departure.

    🧭
Today at a glance: morning = Eiffel Tower; afternoon = Champ de Mars + Rue Cler; evening = Trocadero viewpoint.
    09:30–10:15
Walk or take metro from hotel to Eiffel Tower. Line 6 to Bir-Hakeim, then 8 min walk. Metro single ride about EUR 2.50【estimate】. Buy a carnet of 10 for about EUR 20【estimate】 if you plan more rides.
    10:15–12:15
Go up the Eiffel Tower. Address: 5 Avenue Anatole France, 75007 Paris. Book a timed slot online before you go; walk-up lines can run 1–2 hours【estimate】. Stairs ticket about EUR 14.20【estimate】, lift to summit about EUR 29.40【estimate】. Security check at the base, no large bags.
    12:15–13:15
Eat lunch near Rue Cler. Try Les Cocottes, Rue Saint-Dominique, 75007. Order the cocotte du jour and a glass of wine. Budget about EUR 25–35 per person【estimate】. If it is full, any cafe on Rue Cler works; look for a fixed-price lunch menu (formule) at EUR 18–24【estimate】.
    13:15–14:15
Rest at a cafe or hotel · Midday rest. Sit or return to the hotel; no sightseeing during this time.
    14:15–15:15
Walk Champ de Mars. Flat gravel paths, benches on both sides. Good spot for photos of the tower from the far end. Free.
    15:15–16:15
Stroll Rue Cler. Pedestrian market street, cheese shops, bakeries, fruit stands. Pick up a pastry or a piece of cheese for later, about EUR 5–10【estimate】. Most shops close Sunday afternoon and Monday.
    16:15–17:15
Go to Trocadero for the classic Eiffel Tower view. Metro 6 to Trocadero. The terrace is crowded at sunset; stand on the steps below for a clearer angle. Free.
    17:15–18:00
Head back to the hotel. Metro 6 or 9, about 20–25 min【estimate】. Buy dinner near the hotel or eat at a neighborhood bistro, about EUR 20–30 per person【estimate】.
    🛟
Plan B: if the Eiffel Tower is sold out or the line is too long, swap in the Trocadero viewpoint first, then walk Champ de Mars and Rue Cler. You still see the tower from outside. Try again the next morning at opening.
    💡
Cold fact: the Eiffel Tower was built for the 1889 World's Fair and was supposed to stand for 20 years. It stayed because the radio antenna on top made it useful.

Relaxed pace: one area only (Louvre/central Paris). Must-do Louvre included. Budget: Louvre ticket about EUR 22【estimate】. No departure time given, so day ends at 17:30. No airport transfer assumed.

    🧭
Today at a glance: morning = Louvre; afternoon = Tuileries + Palais Royal; evening = back to hotel area.
    09:00–09:45
Take metro from hotel to the Louvre. Entrance at 1 avenue du Général-Lemonnier, 75001 Paris. Metro 1 to Palais Royal–Musée du Louvre. Single ride about EUR 2.50【estimate】. Go early; the pyramid line grows fast after 10:00.
    09:45–12:45
Visit the Louvre. Open 9:00–18:00 Monday, Thursday, Saturday, Sunday; 9:00–21:00 Wednesday and Friday; closed Tuesday. Ticket about EUR 22【estimate】. Phone +33 (0)1 40 20 53 17 during opening hours. Book a timed entry online. Pick 3 things max: Mona Lisa, Winged Victory, Egyptian section. The museum is huge; do not try to see it all.
    12:45–13:45
Eat lunch near the Louvre. Walk to Rue de Rivoli or Rue Saint-Honoré side streets. Order a croque monsieur or a salad, about EUR 15–25 per person【estimate】. Avoid the first cafe directly facing the pyramid; prices are higher there.
    13:45–14:30
Rest in Jardin des Tuileries · Midday rest. Sit or return to the hotel; no sightseeing during this time.
    14:30–15:30
Walk the Jardin des Tuileries. Flat paths, fountains, view down to the obelisk at Place de la Concorde. Free. There are kiosks for coffee and crepes, about EUR 5–8【estimate】.
    15:30–16:30
Go to Palais Royal, Rue de Montpensier, 75001 Paris. Walk the garden and the arcades. The striped columns in the courtyard (Colonnes de Buren) are free to see. Quiet, fewer people than the Louvre.
    16:30–17:30
Return to hotel. Metro 1 or 7, about 20 min【estimate】. Dinner near the hotel, about EUR 20–30 per person【estimate】. If you want a treat, Cafe de Flore on Rue Saint-Benoît, 75006 Paris, is a classic stop for coffee or dessert, about EUR 10–15【estimate】.
    🛟
Plan B: if the Louvre is closed (Tuesday) or sold out, walk the Tuileries and Palais Royal first, then try the Orangerie or the Musée des Arts Décoratifs nearby. Both are smaller and easier to get into.
    💡
Cold fact: the Louvre was a royal palace before it became a museum. The glass pyramid opened in 1989 and was controversial at the time.
    OPTIONAL

    Optional extras

If you have extra time on Day 1: take a Seine river walk from Pont d'Iéna to Pont de l'Alma. Free, flat, about 40 min【estimate】. Good at dusk.

If you have extra time on Day 2: walk from Palais Royal to Galerie Vivienne, a covered passage with shops and a cafe. Free to enter, about 10 min from Palais Royal.

Rainy day swap: replace outdoor walks with the covered passages (Galerie Vivienne, Passage des Panoramas) and a longer cafe stop. Metro rides stay the same.

Low-energy swap: cut Trocadero on Day 1 and Palais Royal on Day 2. Keep the two must-dos and one meal each day, then rest.

    GOOD TO KNOW

    Tips & pitfalls

Book Eiffel Tower and Louvre timed tickets online before the trip. Both sell out on weekends and holidays. If the official site shows no slots, check again 1–2 days before; some slots reopen.

Metro tickets: a single ride costs about EUR 2.50【estimate】. A carnet of 10 is about EUR 20【estimate】. Keep the ticket until you exit; inspectors do check.

Pickpockets work the metro and the Trocadero steps. Zip your bag, keep your phone in a front pocket, do not leave a bag on the cafe floor.

Lunch is cheaper than dinner at the same restaurant. Look for the formule or menu du jour board outside, usually EUR 18–24【estimate】 for two courses.

Tap water is free and safe to ask for in cafes and restaurants. Say "une carafe d'eau" if you want it with a meal.

Many shops and some restaurants close Sunday afternoon and Monday. Rue Cler is busiest on weekend mornings; go early if you want to browse.

Cards work almost everywhere, but keep EUR 30–50 in cash【estimate】 for small bakeries, market stalls, and tips. ATMs are common; use bank ATMs, not standalone machines.

If you have a food allergy, tell the server clearly and ask about ingredients and cross-contact in the kitchen. No restaurant can be guaranteed safe; check each dish yourself.

1st arrondissement, near Palais Royal / LouvreEUR 200–350 per night【estimate】Steps from the Louvre and Tuileries; central for both days but pricier and busier
6th arrondissement, near Saint-Germain / OdéonEUR 180–300 per night【estimate】Cafes and river walks; 20–25 min metro to either anchor

    Booking logic

Two named hotels came up in this trip's lookup, both in the 7th: Hôtel du Champ de Mars (7 rue du Champ de Mars, 75007; phone +33 1 45 51 52 30, from its site) and Hôtel Muguet (Rue Chevert, 75007). Hôtel de la Bourdonnais (Avenue de la Bourdonnais, 75007) also appears. No live rates or reviews were retrieved — check current prices and cancellation terms yourself before booking.

Three questions to ask any hotel: (1) Is the room on a courtyard or the street? Street rooms in the 7th can be noisy at night. (2) What is the cancellation deadline, and is the rate refundable? (3) Is there a lift, and does it reach your floor? Many small Paris hotels have steep stairs.

Light sleeper note: ask for a high floor away from the lift shaft and the breakfast room. Rue Cler market mornings start early with delivery vans.

Tax-inclusive pricing: French displayed prices usually include VAT, so the ticket and menu prices you see are what you pay.

Money: cards work almost everywhere, but carry EUR 30–50【estimate】 in cash for small bakeries, market stalls, and tips. Use bank ATMs, not standalone currency exchange booths near tourist sites. Tell your bank you are traveling so your card is not blocked.

    IF THINGS GO WRONG

    If things go wrong

    Heavy rain

Swap outdoor walks for covered passages (Galerie Vivienne, Passage des Panoramas) and a long cafe stop. Keep the Louvre and Eiffel Tower slots if already booked. Metro rides stay the same.

    Sold out

If the Eiffel Tower or Louvre is full, try the official site again 1–2 days before. Backup: Trocadero viewpoint for the tower, Orangerie or Musée des Arts Décoratifs for art. Both are smaller and easier to enter.

    Missed train or metro

Metro runs about every 3–7 min【estimate】. If you miss one, wait for the next. For trains, go to the ticket office or app and ask for the next available departure; changes may cost extra.

    Stomach trouble or lost passport

For stomach trouble, stop eating, drink bottled water, and go to a pharmacy (look for the green cross). For a lost passport, report it to the police and contact your embassy or consulate. Keep a photo of your passport and a copy of your insurance policy on your phone.
